Botox Cosmetic™

The most dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of underlying facial muscles every time you smile, laugh, or frown. Wrinkles and lines become deeper and more prominent when you show emotion. Although you may have earned all your worry lines, you shouldn’t have to show them.

Thanks to a new use for an approved drug, unrelenting lines can be dramatically softened. Cosmetic enervation uses Botox Cosmetic™ injections to drastically reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Botox Cosmetic™ is a treatment used to block impulses from the nerve to tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. It relaxes muscles so they will not contract. After the procedure, overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled, while untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion.

Unnerving with Botox is simple and safe. Using an infinitesimally small needle, a minute amount of Botox Cosmetic™ is injected into several locations on the face. Since the needle is so fine and only a small amount of liquid is used, there is minimal discomfort. There is absolutely no sedation or local anesthetic required, so it allows you to immediately resume normal activities. In some patients there is slight, temporary bruising at the injection site.

The side effect most commonly experienced is temporary bruising; however, in some cases the toxin can travel and cause temporary relaxation of nearby muscles. Some patients may experience some redness and swelling that should disappear a couple of hours after the procedure. On rare occasions, there can be drooping of an eyelid, or an asymmetry of facial expression. Any side effects associated with Botox Cosmetic™ are temporary, lasting only a few weeks.

Botox Cosmetic™ is only a temporary solution for treatment of dynamic wrinkles. The injections last from three to six months. It is necessary to be treated about two to three times during a year. Clinical studies show the duration of treatment benefits is increased over time, so you shouldn’t require injections frequently in the future. The duration of effect varies from patient to patient, and it may be less effective for individuals over 65 years of age.
